Mercado Pago Named One of CNBC's World's Top Fintech Companies 2026

Mercado Pago, the fintech arm of Mercado Libre, has been named for the first time to the "World's Top Fintech Companies 2026" list, compiled by CNBC in partnership with Statista.

Mercado Pago has grown into one of Latin America's leading digital payments and financial services platforms, processing nearly $307 billion in payments across the region in the 12 months ended March 2026 (Q1 2026) and serving more than 80 million active monthly users through its banking application. The platform has also played a significant role in expanding credit access for small and medium-sized businesses.

Cash still accounts for 23% of transactions in the region — more than double the U.S. rate — and closing that gap is exactly our opportunity: bringing people and small businesses into the digital economy with access to payments, credit and savings the traditional financial system never offered them. The list evaluates more than 3,500 companies worldwide across eight segments: Payments, Neobanking, Alternative Financing, Wealth Technology, Digital Assets, Enterprise Fintech, Insurtech, and Regtech. Companies were assessed using in-depth research into relevant KPIs drawn from publicly available sources such as annual reports, company websites, and media monitoring, alongside an open online application process in which more than 100 companies submitted their own KPIs for consideration.
