At Mercado Libre, we are strongly committed to our social role and recognize the importance of social organizations for the construction of a fairer and more democratic society and an institutional environment favorable to sustainable business.
We seek to empower the work of NGOs and support their digital inclusion. Therefore, we articulate efforts and make all the solutions and benefits of the Mercado Libre ecosystem available to help you in raising and operating funds, expand the scope of your solidarity initiatives and promote the culture of digital donation in Latin America.
This means that, through Mercado Libre Solidario, NGOs can: sell products or services (produced or donated by them); carry out the sale and registration for events, trainings and activities; receive donations; manage funds for the operation of its programmes; receive training on fundraising and digital campaigns; in addition to linking with other entities in Latin America.
So far, we have promoted innovation and strengthened the work of more than 3,600 organizations that already operated in their causes and territories in 8 countries in the region: Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, Chile, Peru and Venezuela. Through Mercado Libre Solidario they have transacted 26.9 million dollars.
Also, in line with our purpose of scaling social impact by relying on technology, we have developed the Donate Button, which offers Mercado Pago users an easy and safe way to contribute to the social causes of their choice, being able to choose between different NGOs in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico that work to meet the emergencies of those who need it most.
We are sure that many people want to help. That's why the Donate Button is a permanent functionality that allows you to donate to different organizations in a few clicks, in a practical and reliable way.
It is worth noting that, in addition to permanent actions, specific campaigns are carried out in case of socio-environmental emergencies. In 2022, for example, the Donate Button was activated to deal with fires in the province of Corrientes, in Argentina; to support communities affected by floods in Pernambuco, Alagoas, Bahia and Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, and, in Mexico, to help people affected by the damage caused by Hurricane Agatha in the state of Oaxaca.
As part of its commitment to solidarity campaigns, Mercado Libre has supported causes in defense of food security, housing, support for people with disabilities, the environment, education, childhood, diversity, among other issues of vital importance.
