transparency report for the first half of 2025

Mercado Libre sets a record with 99% proactive detection of infringing content and establishes a new standard of digital integrity in the region

  • The vast majority of content moderations no longer rely on external reports: they are anticipated by the Fraud Prevention team and its detection systems.
  • Brand protection also stays ahead of the problem: nearly all intellectual property violations were proactively removed.
  • Privacy is managed more efficiently: 98% of user requests were automatically resolved, speeding up response times.

Mercado Libre presented the tenth edition of its Transparency Report, corresponding to the first half of 2025. This document reflects how the company comprehensively manages the security of the digital ecosystem in Latin America and highlights the main advances in cooperation with authorities, data protection, and content moderation.

In the first six months of the year, more than 647 million listings were analyzed, of which only 1.06% were removed for violating the Terms and Conditions. 99% of these violations were proactively detected thanks to the combination of specialized teams, artificial intelligence, and machine learning models. The categories with the highest level of infringement include counterfeit products, unauthorized medications, and unapproved items, with differences by market.

During the same period, the company handled 384,201 information requests from judicial and administrative authorities throughout the region. The average response time was only 5 days, demonstrating increasingly agile internal processes to ensure legality and protect users.

Through the Brand Protection Program (BPP) - which now includes over 87,000 registered intellectual property rights - and the Mercado Libre Anti-Counterfeiting Alliance (MACA) - which drives investigations and operations in coordination with authorities and global brands - Mercado Libre upholds its commitment to protecting intellectual property on its platform. In the first half of 2025 alone, more than 3.7 million proactive detections were made, representing 89% of all content removed for intellectual property rights violations.

Regarding privacy, Mercado Libre’s priority is to ensure users have clarity on what data is collected and how it is used, as well as effective channels to exercise their rights. During H1 2025, over 1.4 million people exercised their ARCO rights (access, rectification, cancellation, and opposition). Thanks to automated processes, 98.3% of these requests were resolved immediately, significantly reducing response times and allowing each user greater control over their personal data across the region.

“Security and digital integrity are central pillars of our ecosystem. Achieving such high levels of proactive detection reflects how the combination of cutting-edge technology and specialized teams allows us to anticipate risks and act before they affect our users. This Transparency Report demonstrates our commitment to raising trust standards in the region and continuing to build a safer and fairer e-commerce for all,” said Federico Deya, Head of Legal Central at the company.

Mercado Libre was the first Latin American company to periodically publish a Transparency Report, which since its inception has documented projects and results in digital security, data protection, privacy, and anti-piracy efforts. This tenth edition reaffirms its pioneering role in the region.

The Mercado Libre marketplace brings together millions of SMEs, entrepreneurs, and users across the region. Every transaction relies on trust and the certainty of a safe environment. Protecting that trust is a core part of the company’s mission: to ensure fair conditions, product integrity, and an open and equitable e-commerce system.
