Margarita is originally from Cancun. She has 5 children, and she is a saleswoman. Every day, she goes out to tour the beach of Mahahual (the lowest and quietest part of the Mexican Caribbean) to offer her handicrafts such as necklaces and bracelets right on the seashore. This small city lives on both domestic and foreign tourism. Several days a week cruise ships arrive and their crew goes down to discover these paradisiacal beaches.
After the pandemic, when the boats began to arrive, many merchants did not record sales because tourists did not carry cash, so it was at that time, as Margarita tells us, that "the world of the blue machine spread" and she and several merchants of the place began to use Mercado Pago.
In addition to using it as a collection method, Margarita told us that it has been very useful to have the app on her cell phone because now she transfers money, makes payments for services and has even requested credits with it. In a city that does not have banks, having Mercado Pago has helped her avoid having to move to other places to do their financial operations.
